On Saturday, June 4, 2005, we visited the home of Mark and Carol Dresden, also
in Media, Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia.
Mark and Carol have installed in their beautiful home a 3/17 Theatre
Organ Hybrid in an addition to their house, built especially to house this
instrument. All mechanical items were in the basement with the blower in a
small building nearby. The wind line from the blower goes underground to the
house. All we get is pure organ sound without any mechanical noise, and it
just sounds terrific.
There are two chambers with swell shades behind book shelves with the tuned,
non-tuned percussions, and toy counter located in a balcony above.
In a previous life, the Kimball console was temporarily hooked up to the
Wanamaker Organ in the Lord and Taylor store in Philadelphia during the
rebuilt of its six manual console, hence allowing the organ to be played.
Our own Wayne Zimmerman gave us a superb mini concert consisting of
tunes from the entire spectrum. What a show! This man never disappoints.
Afterward was open console and refreshments. Those who played were Tom
Rotunno, Bob Nichols, Dick Metzger, Steve Eaklor, and myself. Also, we had
several "mystery" organists playing through the midi system installed in the
organ. There was plenty of music from many sources.
Many thanks go to Mark and Carol for their hospitality and for sharing with us
a very fine home installation.
